Stellantis to Start Building Medium Electric Vans in Luton from 2025
Stellantis has confirmed that production of its new medium-sized electric vans will begin at the Luton plant in the first half of 2025, with the first vehicles expected to roll out by spring.
This follows the company’s transformation of Ellesmere Port into an all-electric compact van facility, making Luton the next key site in the UK for EV production.

Production Update
Mark Noble, Head of the Luton plant, said:
“Following the transformation of our Ellesmere Port facility to produce all-electric compact vans, I’m pleased to announce that we will commence limited production of our medium electric van in Luton from next year, when the first customer vehicles will roll off the production line.”
Importantly, the factory will continue to produce petrol and diesel vans alongside electric models, providing flexibility for customers who aren’t yet ready to fully switch.
The Stellantis Cargo Box EV
At the centre of this launch is the Stellantis Cargo Box EV, currently built in Italy and not yet on sale in the UK.
Key Specs (expected UK version):
-
Battery: 110 kWh
-
Range: up to 200 miles per charge
-
Power: 274PS (~270 bhp)
-
Torque: 410Nm
-
Charging: 22kW AC standard (≈6 hours for full charge)
This positions the van as one of the more powerful electric options in its class, with overnight charging making it practical for fleets.
Space and Flexibility
Two sizes will be available:
-
Standard Cargo Box: 18.3 m³ load space
-
Extended L4 version: 20.5 m³ load space
Buyers will also have options for custom rear doors or shutters, depending on operational needs.
Why It Matters
The Luton factory has been building vans for over 120 years, and this move secures its place in the electric era. Most models will serve the UK right-hand-drive market, with some destined for export in left-hand drive.
This investment highlights Stellantis’ commitment to keeping manufacturing local and supporting the transition to zero-emission commercial vehicles.
