Volkswagen's Transporter will be offered with electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains for the first time when the new model is introduced early next year.
The starting price for the diesel variant is £30,995, while the electric version will be priced from £41,965.
Sales of three diesel and two electric versions will begin in January, with the plug-in hybrid model (eHybrid) scheduled to be available in 2026.
Built on the same platform as the Ford Transit Custom, the Transporter will be offered in several configurations, including a panel van, a panel van “Plus” (with load compartment, second-row seats, and various partitions), a crewbus (focused on passenger transport), and a double cab with a platform body and long wheelbase.
Both the crewbus and panel van versions can be ordered with a high roof and extended wheelbase.
Volkswagen has also introduced a new variant of its Transporter-based minibus, the Caravelle. This model offers nine seats and will be available in three trim levels: entry-level, mid-range Life, and top-end Style, with an extended wheelbase option. The standard panel van Transporter with a normal wheelbase and roof now offers a 10% increase in stowage volume to 5.8 cu m, while the long-wheelbase, high-roof versions offer a cargo capacity of 9.0 cu m.
The maximum payload has been increased by 10% to 1.33 tonnes, and the maximum trailer weight has been raised by 0.3 tonnes, bringing it to 2.8 tonnes (braked, with a 12% gradient).
All models feature a newly designed cockpit with a 12-inch fully digital instrument panel and a 13-inch central touchscreen.
Other features include USB and 12V sockets, with the option to add one or even three 230V sockets for the electric and plug-in hybrid models.
Standard equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, LED headlights, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition.
Both the Transporter panel van and Caravelle are available in the PanAmericana all-terrain versions.
All UK buyers will receive Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' 5+ Promise Warranty and Service plan, covering five services, five years’ warranty, and five years’ roadside assistance.
