Zeekr presents electric van Mix based on new electric architecture

Geely's electric car brand, Zeekr, has introduced the new SEA-M platform alongside its first model based on it: the Zeekr Mix. The SEA-M platform is an evolution of Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) and is designed for a range of vehicles, including passenger cars, robotaxis, vans, and commercial models.

Zeekr Mix Debuts at Auto China

Initially launched with the SEA platform in the Zeekr 001, a large electric shooting brake, Geely announced in 2020 that this architecture would cater to electric vehicles across various segments, including light commercial vehicles. As Chinese manufacturers are known for their rapid development cycles, the SEA platform has already undergone notable advancements. For example, the recently unveiled facelift of the Zeekr 001 now operates with an 800-volt system, an upgrade from the previous 400-volt system.

However, the SEA-M platform focuses on maximizing interior space, safety, and manoeuvrability, rather than enhancing driving performance or charging speed. Zeekr has invested around seven billion yuan (approximately €900 million) into the development of SEA-M.

Highlights of the SEA-M Architecture

The SEA-M’s flat floor and long wheelbase, relative to its overall length, provide significant interior space. The design, described as "capsule-styled," optimizes cabin roominess. Additionally, the advanced electronics architecture supports multiple infotainment screens for both drivers and passengers, making road trips more engaging.

Despite its roomy interior, the platform is designed to maintain agility, with a turning radius of under five meters. It is also equipped with a steer-by-wire system, which enables a variable steering ratio and allows the steering wheel to be decoupled—an essential feature for future autonomous driving capabilities.

Introducing the Zeekr Mix

The Zeekr Mix, the first model built on the SEA-M platform, was unveiled at a trade fair as the brand’s fifth model. This compact electric van, featuring five seats, is expected to reach Europe by 2025.

Measuring 4.70 meters in length and offering a wheelbase of three meters, the Mix is slightly shorter than the Tesla Model Y but offers more interior space due to its extended wheelbase. With its absence of a traditional B-pillar, the front and rear sliding doors allow for wide access to the cabin. Inside, the Zeekr Mix features sofa-like lounge seating for maximum comfort.

Performance and Powertrain

While detailed technical specifications are still pending, earlier information from China’s Ministry of Industry indicates that the Zeekr Mix will feature an electric motor delivering 310 kW of power. The NCM chemistry batteries will be supplied by a joint venture between Geely and CATL, though further details have yet to be disclosed.

This new SEA-M-based platform underscores Zeekr’s commitment to delivering innovative, spacious, and versatile electric vehicles suited for a variety of needs.
